The celebration included the presentation of commemorative plaques and pictures from IHI, breaking of the Sake Barrel and speeches from representatives of both organizations.

Representing Terex Cranes were Steve Filipov, president, Fil Filipov, former president, Craig Lichty, senior vice-president of business development; Jim Strobush, sales manager; and Don Alberts, chief engineer.

The relationship between IHI and Terex can be traced back to 1952 when Koehring and Ishiakawajima Heavy Industries established Ishiakawajima Koehring Company as a technical/capital partnership.

This partnership lasted until 1977, then 10 years later Koehring was acquired by Terex, and the relationship came full circle when Terex Cranes opened discussions and made the business decision to buy Terex branded crawler cranes from IHI.

Discussions regarding the purchase of crawler cranes began in 1998 leading to the purchase of the first unit from IHI in 1999. This was a prototype HC 80 Luffer for display at ConExpo 1999.

Additional HC 80’s were purchased in 1999 and then in 2000 the HC 110 was added to the product line. 2001 saw the introduction of the HC 50, HC 60 and HC 275, then in late 2003 the HC 165 was introduced to the North American market.

The 300th unit produced for Terex is an HC 110. This crane was sold to RTL Equipment of Des Moines, Iowa.

Terex is currently working with IHI on the development of a new model with a lifting capacity of that between the HC 165 and the HC 275.
