IPAF mastclimber committee restructured
IPAF has restructured its international Mast Climbing Work Platform (MCWP) committee.
The committee now comprises the UK & Ireland MCWP Work Group (formerly the UK & Ireland MCWP committee) and the MCWP Training Work Group. It has also announced that local and topic-specific work groups will make up part of the committee.
Kevin O’Shea, the director of safety and training for Canadian-based Hydro Mobile, and Adrian Bolton, Alimak Hek UK’s construction manager, have been appointed chairman and vice-chairman respectively. Apollo Cradles’ operations director Darren Brady has been appointed chairman of the IPAF UK & Ireland mast climber work group with Steven McEwan of Scot-Train vice-chairman.
Brady said: “I am passionate about the Mast climber industry and I look forward to continuing the good work of this IPAF committee. The committee is fortunate to have some very experienced members in all aspects of the industry. The industry has suffered in recent years due to the economic downturn, but it is now returning to its original position and still remains one of the safest, most economical ways for men and materials to work at height.”

The mast climber committee will spend the coming months encouraging the industry to report accidents at the IPAF accident database www.ipaf.org/accident as well as developing and distributing case studies that highlight the safe and effective use of mast climbers. It will also develop content for its mast climber web site -
www.ipaf.org/mcwp - and review the mast climber training manual to simplify the language and structure.
