Horizon expands delivery fleet

UK based rental company Horizon Platforms has added two heavy-duty Mercedes-Benz trucks to its delivery fleet.

The Actros 2548 LS trucks features Mercedes’ Powershift 3 automatic gearbox, a 2.5 metre wide sleeper cab and a 480bhp engine which complies with the latest European emission standards. They also feature the company’s electronic inspection system, which manages maintenance and inspection schedules electronically. Using three-axle Nooteboom OSCS semi low-load trailers which feature hydraulic ramps and hydraulic double flip access ramps, the trucks can transport loads up to 23.5 tonnes.

The company said it has ambitious growth plans for the next few years and took the decision to buy the trucks to further improve its customer service and delivery times as well as reduce environmental emissions and enhance driver safety and comfort.

Horizon Platforms operations manager Gary Whitaker, added: “The new trucks are a win-win for our customers, our staff and the environment and form an essential part of Horizon’s expansion plans. On-board technology including digital tachographs and street level internet mapping will help us reduce fuel consumption and environmental emissions, and the sheer size of the vehicles means we can make one trip where we used to make two, enabling us to cut our carbon footprint even further.”

With depots in Warrington and Ossett, Horizon Platforms operates a fleet of more than 650 access platforms.
