A boom called Bambi
German rental company Buchtmann Arbeitsbühnen has taken delivery of a 180ft Genie SX180 which it has named Bambi.
The new lift was handed over last week by Bernard Kahn and Christina Kirsten of Genie Germany, at the rental company’s Delmenhorts headquarters.
The company, which runs a fleet of aerial lifts, cranes and telehandlers from two locations in Northern Germany, gives all of its rental machines a name. Work Platforms are always given a female name, while cranes and telehandlers get a male designation. The names are then used in the company’s marketing efforts.

the big boom Bambi arrives in Delmenhorst
Talking of the rationale behind acquiring an SX180 chief executive Wilhelm Buchtman said: "Our customers which are primarily in the oil and gas industry, construction of large industrial projects, industrial construction, general maintenance and international shipyard work - are asking us for machines with this work height for extreme access situations, so I just wanted to offer the highest model with best performance in our rental fleet".
"Our customers are always on the lookout for new and innovative methods of completing their tasks more efficiently and effectively. The relatively compact footprint of the Genie-X chassis on the SX-180 convinced be with this machine. The fact that it is also driveable at full working height without outriggers, makes it extremely efficient compared to a truck-mounted platform. "
