New Bobcat 10/12m telehandlers

Bobcat unveiled replacements for its 10 and 12 metre telehandlers this week with the introduction of the 3.5 tonne/10.3 metre T35105 and T35105L - both of which have a 6.88 metre maximum forward reach - and the 3.6 tonne/11.87 metre T36120SL, which offers a forward reach of 8.2 metres.

The new models incorporate many of the changes introduced on the TL360/TL470 compact units and 14 to 18 metre T40140/T40180 models launched last year. The T35105L features a frame-levelling system, while the T36120SL incorporates both stabilisers and the frame-levelling system. The T35105 has neither.

The most basic of the three new models, the T35105

Improvements include a new cab, with a large parabolic windscreen which provides a significant improvement in visibility, particularly when working with high loads, while visibility to the rear and side has substantially improved to help eliminate blind spots. The cab also features a new dashboard with digital display and ergonomic controls, including a joystick with integrated forward/reverse control for improved productivity and greater safety, allowing the operator to keep one hand on the steering wheel at all times.

The T35105L includes frame levelling

The new models include upgraded electronics based on CANbus technology, allowing smart machine management and monitoring of the main components for easier maintenance. Power comes from either a Perkins Stage IIIA or Deutz Stage IIIB diesel, with the choice depending on region/regulations. All three units have a stadard hydrostatic transmission offering a maximum travel speed of 30 kph, complemented by an inching function for smooth driving and precise positioning.

The units are fitted with an overload protection system that Bobcat calls its Aggravating Movement Arrester (AMA) system, because it cuts off all aggravating movements to keep it within the safe working envelope, whatever the attachment and the type of load being lifted.

Largest of the three, the T36120SL includes standard stabilisers and frame levelling

These new telehandlers have a good standard specification and look the part, which will make them attractive to its distributors and buyers – as long as they are still competitively priced of course. However for the rental market they are slightly smaller or larger than the current 3.5 tonne lift products available from market leaders Manitou and JCB. The new machines are certainly a good step forward for Bobcat, which has also upgraded its production facility in France, adding new tooling and processes etc…

The company now has a fully updated fixed frame product line, however the new models are not sufficient on their own to win Bobcat a significant share of the telehandler market. Far more will depend in the company’s ability to step up its telehandler marketing and distribution, as well as its ability to offer attractive prices and financial terms.
