Articulated STS cranes for Australia

Australian port operator Patrick Stevedores has ordered four Liebherr ship to shore cranes for its ports in Botany, Sydney and Fisherman’s Island, Brisbane.

The three cranes destined for the Port Botany have been specially designed with an articulated boom in order for them to operate within the height restrictions due to its close proximity to Sydney airport. Offering an outreach of 57 metres, they feature an integrated pinning platform and electronic anti-sway system to allow for automatic and semi-automatic operation.

A 65 tonne ship to shore container crane has also been ordered for its terminal on Fisherman’s Island. With an outreach of 50 metres, it also offers a span of 25.3 metres, a back reach of 18 metres and a lift height over rail of 37.5 metres.

Liebherr Container Cranes’ sales and marketing manager Mr Gerry Bunyan, said: “The cranes for both Port Botany and Fisherman’s Island use cutting-edge technology featuring numerous developments and innovations. Our automation and development engineers have worked hand in hand with engineers from Patricks Stevedores to ensure that the cranes will integrate seamlessly into the existing automated environment.

Liebherr Container Cranes has recently completed the testing of the unique articulated boom cranes at its facility in Killarney, Ireland. Once complete, the new cranes will join five existing mobile harbour cranes in operation at the company’s terminals in Australia.
