Bridge launcher crane collapse

A bridge launcher crane helping build a new elevated highway in Manila, the Philippines, collapsed yesterday.

The 180 tonne girder crane was working on the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Elevated Skyway, when it dropped down into the street below, crushing four cars, but miraculously no one was hurt. The crane is used to lift large elements of the bridge deck into position.

We have no details of what caused the failure.
