Palfinger to acquire Iberian distributor

Palfinger has agreed the acquisition of the Palfinger distribution business of its Spanish dealer MYCSA from the Mulder family- the majority owner.

The business – once approvals are received - will trade as Palfinger Iberica and plans to take over the Palfinger sales and services business in Spain and Portugal at the end of the first quarter.

Palfinger Iberica will employ around 80 people across six locations and focus on the sale and servicing of loader loader cranes, truck mounted aerial lifts, timber and recycling cranes, hooklifts, and products from the Palfinger marine division. Initially Palfinger will hold a 75 percent stake in the company with the Mulder family retaining the rest. Managing director Olaf Mulder will continue to work for the company over the next 12 months as a consultant.

Spain was among one of Palfinger’s largest markets until 2008 and the company statement said: “The Mulder family and its company MYCSA, has contributed a great deal to Palfinger’s extraordinarily high market share in the past 38 years. However, following the financial crisis and the subsequent real estate crisis, the market collapsed, and the first hesitant signs of recovery only appeared in 2014 and 2015. The crane market is expected to grow strongly in the years to come; with this strong partner Palfinger is well-equipped for competition”.

MYCSA is also a Sennebogen distributor and handles a range of other products and services, which it will continue to operate within the current business.
