Externally the cab not only introduces a new look for the grove cranes, which currently use a cab shape that dates from the Krupp days prior to its acquisition by Grove, but has also been designed to improve the aerodynamics of the crane as a whole in order to help with fuel efficiency.
To this end the GMK4100 will also include the new Michelin X-Crane tyres as standard. Michelin claim that the new tyre improves ride comfort, with added levels of safety for running at high speeds with high axle loadings and provides a 20 percent improvement in tyre life.

Prior to the unveiling, Manitowoc crane group president Glen Tellock, highlighted the changes that have occurred with the group as it “continues its unification programme bringing the Manitowoc, Grove, Potain and National crane businesses closer together in order to become the leading supplier of premium lifting solutions”
Phillipe Cohet Executive vice president of the Europe, Africa and Middle East region stressed the company’s the completion of the New Potain plant in China and the Niella plant in Italy.
He also told Vertikal.Net that the new cab was an indication of the innovation aspect that the company is now putting into its cranes. Demonstrating a new look as well as extra benefits for crane users. He said that the company was focusing on changes which provide tangible benefits, rather than “technology for the sake of technology” in a dig at certain competitors.
He also said that the company has spent much of the past few years working on specification improvements, including longer booms, lighter weight and higher lifting capacities. The new cab is a move towards making the products easier and safer to operate.
