CPA ready for Lighthouse Run

The UK’s Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA) is sponsoring the upcoming Lighthouse Club Run this weekend.

The run will consist of a drive from John O’Groats in the north of Scotland, to Land’s End in Cornwall, South England, in six stages over two days.

CPA which is celebrating 75 years, has its own team taking the challenge, ‘Alas Smith and Brown’, made up of legal manager David Smith and technical development manager Peter Brown. The drive will take competitors through the Scottish Highlands and then down to the Lake District. The next day will take them through Wales and the West Country to Land’s End. 12 teams are taking part in the challenge, including Allbrook Construction, Mercury Construction, JC Balls, Randstad and HPC Kaeser.

The emphasis is very much on having fun with like-minded people and raising money for the Lighthouse Club Construction Industry Charity. Drivers will need to use their wits to navigate themselves along the designated route, as Sat Navs are not allowed. The car with the least recorded mileage at the end of the run is the winner.

Brown said: “We are delighted to be representing CPA in this charity run to celebrate our 75th anniversary. It’s a driving and navigation challenge rather than a race and we are ready for the task! With the commute to and from the event we will be covering just short of 2,000 miles – but it’s for a deserving cause and we are very much looking forward to the challenge.”

Smith added: “As the CPA has been a long-standing supporter of the Lighthouse Club, Peter and I are pleased to participate in this year’s John O’Groats to Land’s End challenge to help mark the Lighthouse Club’s 60th anniversary, and the CPA’s 75th anniversary. Peter and I are looking forward to meeting the other teams and completing the course.”

The Lighthouse Club began in 1956 and focuses on providing financial assistance, welfare and wellbeing advice and emotional and legal support to the construction industry. Donations can be made here at its website.
