Platform overturn

A boom truck mounted platform overturned onto the Library of Virgina in Richmond, Virgina yesterday trapping the two occupants in the platform.

There may have been an issue with one of the outriggers

The two, were working for the owner of the boom truck, Novell Signs, were placing a large banner on the building working at fairly long reach with the machine working over the side. They were at a height of around 10 metres when the machine tipped, seemingly do to an issue with one of the outriggers.

A fire ladder was used to rescue the two men in the platform

Fortunately the platform did not tip all the way and the two men managed to stay in the platform and were uninjured. They were rescued by the emergency services and a fire ladder., The crane was then recovered with the help of a heavy wrecker truck and a pick up.

The incident caused road closures in the area until the equipment was removed.
