Secondary guarding system from Teupen

Teupen has unveiled details of its new TOP secondary guarding system that stops the machine, should the operator be pressed against the upper control box following contact with an overhead obstacle.

The system is of a relatively simple design, using a wire across the front of the control box, which pulls on a spring loaded cut out switch when pressure is applied. The switch immediately stops all movements and activates audible and visual alarms to notify the operator and others that the system has been engaged. Once the emergency or false alarm is over the system can be easily reset from the operating position.

A more sophisticated version is also available that can reverse the last movement of the machine by a pre-determined amount, immediately the system is activated. Given the wide range of models in the Teupen line, there are several different installations, although they use the same principal and common components. A retrofit version is available for older machines depending on model and year of manufacture.

Vertikal Comment

This is a fairly basic system and not unlike some of those already on the market. The advantage is that it can be adapted to the different machines in the company’s product line, it also provides space between the cut out point and the hard structure of the control box which might prevent the operator from experiencing any undue pressure – depending of course on the speed and force of the movement. It also lends itself to retrofitting to the widest range of models.
