Gottwald for Italian terminal

Terminal San Giorgio (TSG) of Genoa, Italy has ordered a Konecranes Gottwald G HMK 7608 mobile harbour crane.

The eight axle HMK 7608 has a maximum lifting capacity of 150 tonnes and a maximum working radius of 54 metres. It will be equipped with a twin lift spreader providing a lifting capacity of up to 60 tonnes.

The crane will be delivered in June, and will join another Model 7 mobile harbour crane, which was delivered in 2013. The new crane will handle containers, general cargo and project cargo in the multi purpose terminal. Powered by a diesel-electric hybrid engine, it will use power from the port’s grid, reducing the crane’s energy consumption and emissions.

TSG managing director Maurizio Anselmo said: “Our existing Model 7 crane from Konecranes, with its high level of performance and reliability, has helped to enhance our handling capacity. Moreover, the competence and availability of the local Konecranes service team has been impressive. This is why we opted for a Konecranes Gottwald mobile harbour crane again. Together, the two versatile cranes will help us to fully exploit the potential of our terminal, which is the premier multi-purpose terminal in the port of Genoa.”

Konecranes regional sales manager Gino Gherri added: “This order from TSG confirms the positive market development in Italy. Terminal operators are investing in their infrastructure with an eye on state-of-the-art technology, and many of them are opting for our design and concept. We are pleased to strengthen our presence in Italy’s biggest port, Genoa, where terminals are experiencing an increasing demand for high-quality services.”
