JCB expands UK plant

JCB is expanding its main production facility in the UK with a new 35,000 square metre cab manufacturing facility in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire as it relocates cab production.

The new building, which should be completed sometime next year, represents an investment of around £50 million which will double the current in house production of cabs, which are used on a variety of its machines, including telehandlers.

The facility will have the capacity to produce up to 100,000 cabs a year and will include a computer controlled production line, fully automated paint facility and robotic welding. It is expected to employ around 200 additional staff by 2022.

JCB Cab Systems is currently based in Rugeley, Staffordshire and employs 400.
David Carver, general manager of JCB Cabs said: “While new jobs will be created, moving to the new factory will enable us to double capacity without doubling the workforce thanks to high levels of automation. The whole plant is being designed to improve productivity, reduce waste and provide unprecedented quality levels.”
