Mast boom stability

Anyone who is familiar with mast booms will know that you need to be careful when driving them up or down ramps, including loading on a truck, or driving off a curb.

Excessive speed and hard braking can be disastrous, while some progress has been made over the years to lower the centre of gravity, there is a limit to what can be done to squeeze the necessary counterweight into the short overall length.

Driving too rapidly over a steep curb can end in tears

A classic example occurred in France during the past week or two, during what looks like a ‘Yellow Vest’ demonstration. The operator drove the ATN tracked mast boom too quickly off of a deep curb and suffered the consequences. We understand that he was hurt, but not seriously injured.
