230t Liebherrs for Wasel

German crane and heavy lifting contractor Wasel has taken delivery of two 230 tonne Liebherr LTM 1230-5.1 All Terrain cranes.

The five axle LTM 1230-5.1 features a 75 metre main boom plus a 43 metre fixed offset jib, providing a maximum tip height of around 115 metres. One of the new cranes has recently been erecting two new power lines.

Technical manager Julian Schmidt said: “The long telescopic boom on the crane is enough to assemble structures up to 70 metres high. This crane enables us to reach such heights without any major accessories where other cranes would require lattice jibs. The crane has quite simply incredible lifting capacities on its long boom. It is also excellent for operating with the short boom. That makes it extremely flexible and versatile for us. We also use the two new cranes to erect tower cranes and for work in the petrochemicals industry. VarioBase and VarioBallast are therefore very useful in the narrower areas of such plants.”

Crane operator Markus Götzen added: “The crane is fantastic to drive on the road. And the single engine system works perfectly. In fact, I cannot think of anything on the crane to complain about.”
