Working on the ledge

Spotted in North London earlier this month, a man working on a window at a height of around five metres - seven or eight metres if you count the drop into the basement - with no safety gear whatsoever.

One assumes that he is only going to work on a single window and thus decided that it was not worth organising some form of work at height equipment?

The problem is though that he is balancing on the narrow windowsill and has to use at least one of his hands to carry out whatever work he is doing. On top of the fall which would almost certainly prove fatal or life changing, there is a chance he could land on the railing spikes, adding a different type of injury.

It looks as though he is working on the sealant/putty around the glazing which takes time and attention. It also looks as though he will need to work on the other two windows on this level.

A closer look

If this was a short one off job, he could easily have worn a harness and attached a lanyard to the internal wall or frame? Hopefully he completed his work unharmed – this time – definitely one for our Death Wish series.

Have a safe weekend.
