Northern Italian spider lift manufacturer Platform Basket has taken the decision not to attend Conexpo next week in order to ensure there is no chance or concern of spreading the Covid 19 virus,.
In a thoughtful and sad statement to Vertikal.net the company said:
“Our company is located in the North of Italy (Emilia-Romagna), where Covid19 has affected part of the population and where some restrictions have been outlined by our department of health.”
“For this reason, and in respect of the North America people, Platform Basket has decided to give up the exhibition, even if we are now very close to the opening and the event is one of the most important international shows in the access platform field. And where it was a very important occasion for us to display our spider lift range and to present our new model the Spider 20.95.”
“We strongly believe that the health of everyone is the primary interest, so we decided to take a step back. In the meantime the Platform Basket headquarters, and production plant are working at full capacity.”
This would have been a very difficult decision for the company, in that it would have been the first time that it had exhibited directly at the big American show. Only a month or two ago it was really excited about launching its latest new product in Las Vegas.
However given its location in one of Europe's highest risk areas, it felt that it was the right thing to do, even though it has already committed to almost all of the costs to attend and the machines are in place.
While some might consider that it is being a little over cautious in this decision, the fact that there are so many unknown factors surrounding the spread of this new Corona virus, it is hard not to respect, or even admire the decision along with the management’s rationale for taking it.
Hopefully the spread of this disease in northern Italy will peak in the coming week or two and Platform Basket will continue to go from strength to strength.
