The new machines have working heights of 15 and 18 metres respectively and a platform capacity of 750kg – four persons and their tools. There is a choice of standard or extra long single or dual deck extension options. The regular extensions take the overall deck length from 3.8 to 4.8 metres on the basic model or 5.8 metres on the Pro model, while the XL platform extension takes the fully extended dual decks to 7.4 metres. The HS15E can drive at full height while the HS18E cuts out at an 11 metre platform height. Overall width is 2.3 metres, with an overall stowed length of 4.4 metres. Total weight is 7.5 tonnes for the HS15E and just over eight tonnes for the HS18E.

The new models are all electric with the option of a lift-on/lift-off diesel recharging pack. The four wheel direct electric drive uses heavy duty telehandler type axles - with one large centrally located AC electric drive motor mounted on the drive central transfer box. The front axle is oscillating on the Pro models, while the rear axle has a traditional differential lock to aid performance on slippery or sticky ground all of which provides 40 and 45 percent gradeability. Non-marking perforated solid tyres are standard.

Rough Terrain performance equals or exceeds diesel models

The 48 volt battery pack is made up of eight six volt 435Amp hour Trojan L16H-AC lead acid batteries, with Haulotte’s Activ’Energy Management centralised top up system. It is said to be sufficient for a full shift. Charging options include regular 110/230 volt mains, or three phase fast charging which is said to be able to fully recharge the battery pack from empty to 80 percent in three hours. They can also be topped up with the optional ‘Range Extended’ Stage V diesel power pack, which can be moved between machines, allowing rental companies to offer it as an option. The machine can also be operated while being re-charged.

Vertikal Comment

These look like excellent machines and follow the design philosophy and attention to detail that have been a feature of new Haulotte products over the past three or four years, which are ‘streets ahead’ of the older, more basic Haulotte products. The two machines - and particularly the HS18E - stack up exceptionally well with other products on the market and is likely to prove popular with end users and rental company staff alike.

The machines join new electric powered Rough Terrain scissor lifts from Dingli and other Chinese manufacturers that are already beginning to find favour among some rental companies, which until now would not have considered taking higher cost lifts from new suppliers. The launch is likely to spur on development of such machines from other larger manufacturers and change the nature of the RT scissor lift market.
