Nicholas F. Gallinaro 1930 - 2014

We have received the sad news of the death of Nick Gallinaro, founder and previous owner of New Jersey based crane and access distributor GAR Equipment, he was 84.

Born in Somerville, Massachusetts, on February 25, 1930, he was one of two boys, the other being his late brother Armando. He passed away on March 17th.

After graduating from Boston College, he served as a lieutenant in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. After his military service he began a career in sales working with large mining and construction equipment. In the 1970s he established his own company GAR and was soon joined by Matt Rocca.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Inez, four sons Michael, James, Stephen and Robert. Along with 10 grandchildren. He spent much of his lie living in Middletown, New Jersey, where the two raised their children, before moving to The Villages in Florida. He was a committed Yankee fan and enjoyed hunting with his sons and business friends, including J. Martin Benchoff – the chief executive of Grove – Gallinaro was one of the few speakers at his memorial. See: Goodbye to JMB

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 22nd at 10:00 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Donations may be made to the church building fund of St. Vincent de Paul at http://www.sumtercatholic.org/ or The Villages Hospice House 601 Casa Bella, The Villages, FL.
