AFI to upgrade delivery fleet

UK access rental company AFI has taken delivery of three DAF 6x2 tractor units and ordered 15 Montracon trailers suitable for its ‘Super-Set’ range of large boom and scissor lifts with working heights of 20 to 58 metres.

The order includes three STGO CAT 2 compliant DAF 480 FTG tractor units along with 15 CAT 2 complaint three axle Montracon trailers - five MT51s and 10 units of the MT45 - which have been supplied specifically to transport aerial work platforms including the company’s 106ft Holland Lift Megastar scissor lifts which weigh 31,200kg.

Features include rear steer axles, full width air assisted ramp to gooseneck, double bend beavertail, extendable handrail systems, multiple lashing rings and a heavy duty winch. The company also plans to add further CAT 2 tractor units, taking the total number heavy delivery vehicles to 18.

AFI chief operating officer Nick Higgins, said: “By the time these trailers are into service along with continued refreshment of our tractor unit fleet, they will be able to play a dual role and move our normal fleet of access platforms as well as our Super-Set units. This will have huge advantages to the customer in terms of availability, delivery and collection times and will help us operationally in efficiently and quickly moving big equipment around the UK to meet customer demand.”
