Scottish rental company Bernard Hunter Mobile Cranes has taken delivery of a new 'flagship crane in the form of a 700 tonne Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 All Terrain crane.
Replacing an ageing 500 tonne LTM 1500-8.1, the eight axle LTM 1650 has been supplied with both the 50 and 80 metre main booms, a six to 62 fixed jib and Liebherr’s Y-guying system. Features include the company’s single engine concept along with its VarioBallast and VarioBase technologies.
Ordered shortly after its launch at bauma 2019, managing director Mark Rafferty said: “We’d been waiting for the updated model with great anticipation, as our 500 tonne LTM 1500-8.1 was the last Liebherr crane due for a refresh. We had no hesitation in ordering the new LTM 1650-8.1 and planned a two year lead time to permit us a straightforward integration into the fleet. The crane puts our business into a different league as a supplier of heavy lifting solutions and the variety of applications it will suit is incredible.”
Established in 1946, Bernard Hunter runs a fleet of All Terrain, mobile self erecting towers, truck, crawler, and spider cranes from its location in Gilmerton, Edinburgh. The LTM 1650-8.1 is the first of this new model to be based in Scotland and the second to arrive in the UK after Ainscough took delivery of the first last month – see: First LTM 11650-8.1 in UK.
