New truck mount player in Oz

Australian spider lift specialist Monitor Lifts has formed a new division - Waimea Australia, a joint venture with the Waimea Group of New Zealand.

The Joyce family, which owns Monitor Lifts, holds a majority stake in the new business, while the Waimea Group has a significant minority holding. Waimea Australia will be dedicated to the sale and rental of truck mounted lifts throughout the country, while Monitor will increase its focus on the sale of spider lifts and rail mounted platforms from Platform Basket and Omme Lift.

Waimea offers GSR platforms along with Versalift insulated lifts

Waimea Australia will now handle the GSR distribution, which Monitor has handled since 2009, and also distribute Versalift insulated platforms, the first shipment of which is already on the water from Versalift USA. The company has also purchased a number of Socage truck mounted lifts for its start up rental fleet from distributor Access Service which had them in stock.

New Zealand's Waimea Group is based in Richmond on the north end of South Island and was founded in 1980 by Malcolm Thomas as Waimea Truck and Tractor. A second generation in the form of Kingsley Thomas joined the business in 2002.

Waimea Australia has acquired a few Socage truck mounted lifts for its rental fleet

Since then, the company has developed a line of lightweight compact loader cranes in 2008, which it sells under the Quicklift brand, and as a result changed its name to Waimea Truck and crane a few years later. In 2013 it was appointed as the Australasian dealer for South Korean truck mounted and utility lift manufacturer Donghae. And in 2020 established the Waimea Group, which incorporates Waimea Truck and crane and Mainline Group. The group’s main focus is on the utility and power line business. Last year it acquired Allflow Vacuum equipment, which includes water equipment and tankers among its many products.

The company distributes CTE, Donghae and Versalift truck mounted lifts in New Zealand, runs a loader crane rental business focused on power line work - mostly with Palfinger cranes and supplies traffic management trucks.

Waimea Australia will offer both of its product lines on short term, long term, ‘Hire 2 Own’, ‘Purchase, Lease’ regular finance, or whatever the customer requires. It is also likely to add some of the other lines handled by Waimea New Zealand over the next year or so.
