New 150 tonner for 40th anniversary

UK crane rental company Lee Lifting Services has taken delivery of a new 150 tonne Liebherr LTM 1150-5.3 as it celebrates its 40th anniversary.

Lee Lifting - based in Feltham, near Heathrow Airport in London - was established by Lee and Kath Whitmore in 1981. One of the company’s first jobs was working on the Superman film and it has since gone on to become a leading crane and operator provider for the film and television industry, supplying studios such as Pinewood, Leavesden and Shepperton - where Netflix has announced a major investment. The fleet ranges from 10 tonne city cranes to a 220 tonne All Terrain.

The new crane features a 66 metre boom plus a 10.8 to 19 metre bifold swingaway extension which can offset by up to 40 degrees and be extended with a seven metre insert to provide a tip height of almost 95 metres and a maximum radius of 72 metres. The single engine crane has a Stage V diesel and can travel with up to 29 tonnes of counterweight, plus the full extension and hook blocks in the UK. The LTM 1150-5.3 includes VarioBase outrigger set up and Liebherr’s engine shutdown system, which includes over speed protection for operation in oil, gas and petrochemical applications. The crane also sports an update to the company’s bright green livery to incorporate a 40th anniversary theme.

Director Jody Whitmore said: “As our work tends to be very specialist, we look for very specific qualities in our machinery. This new LTM 1150 is a welcome addition to our existing fleet, many of which come from the Liebherr stable. We pride ourselves on reliability, quality and appearance and have come a long way since buying our first 25 tonne Kato truck crane back in 1981 to now being a fully established fleet of 17 very high specification machines. 40 years on, we continue to be impressed by the reliability of Liebherr’s machinery as well as their response times and stock levels when it comes to parts and servicing. This is why we have a further two new Liebherr cranes on order for later this year.”
