CAT invests in Lithos Energy

Caterpillar has invested in US lithium ion battery pack designer and manufacturer Lithos Energy, but has not disclosed the size of its stake in the California based business.

Lithos Energy is based in San Rafael, California, and specialises in designing and manufacturing bespoke battery solutions for a wide range of applications, including construction and mining equipment, marine and motor sport. Its products include low voltage packs up to 48 Volts and high voltage batteries up to 800 volts.

Joe Creed, president of Cat energy and transportation said: “Caterpillar’s collaboration with Lithos supports our commitment to delivering electrified products for our customers. Cat equipment – regardless of its power source – is designed to operate in the most demanding conditions. Lithos’ experience manufacturing battery packs for similarly demanding environments will be an asset as we continue our electrified product development.”

Lithos chief executive James Meredith added: “We are excited to be working with Caterpillar, especially at a time when the manufacturer is entering a new age of efficiency and reduced emission operation. This funding will enable Lithos to accelerate technology development and scale up manufacturing capacity."
