New Genie GTH- 1256 on the way

Genie is to launch a new version of its GTH-1256 12,000lbs/5.4 tonne - 56ft/17 metre telescopic handler at the ARA Show in Orlando next month.

The new GTH-1256 can manage 6,000lbs(2,721kg) at its maximum lift height of just over 56ft/17m and take 3,500lbs (1,588kg) to its maximum forward reach of 42ft (12.8m). Power comes from a Deutz diesel matched to a four speed powershift transmission, with new limited slip differentials on both axles and full time four wheel drive. The power is transferred to the ground through Genie’s long-life Enduro A/T tyres which are said to combine the best characteristics of rock lug and conventional rough terrain tyres. They are also said to provide 30 percent longer life before they need to be replaced.

A new cab design features improved visibility, a seven inch display screen, reverse back up camera, rear proximity alarm and full air conditioning system. The unit also includes Genie’s ‘Quick Attach’ system for faster easier swapping of attachments and includes the same options as the 1056 with rotating and swing carriages.

The new model appears to be a little more compact

Product manager Amalija Kopac said: “This is a high capacity telehandler designed, built and extensively tested for the realities of heavy duty jobs. When we were designing and testing this machine, we prioritised durability and reliability, along with a reduced total cost of ownership and productivity, ensuring our 12k telehandler will deliver the performance and longevity needed by equipment operators and owners now, and well into the future. This is the next step as Genie develops and expands our telehandler family, and we are really excited to introduce the new GTH-1256.”

Vertikal Comment

Genie has not yet provided spec sheets for the new machine, apart from lift and reach information, which is quite similar to the existing model, although the current unit will take 7,000lbs/3,250kg to its full height - 529kg more than the new model. Visually the new model looks a little more European low boom design, than the current machine, and appears to be more compact, losing a little of rear end protrusion/overhang of the old 1256. It also has a slightly smaller, and more efficient engine, we anticipate that it will also be a little lighter and incorporate a range of new technology, whether optional or standard.
We will be attending the ARA Show this year and will certainly check it out.
