First Grove for Hiap Heng

Singapore’s Hiap Heng Group has taken delivery of its first Grove crane, a 300 tonne GMK6300L-1 All Terrain. The new crane also becomes the company’s ’flagship crane’ topping a 220 tonne Tadano.

Delivered in December the new crane has since worked on a one week maintenance shutdown at a petrochemical plant on Jurong Island.
The six axle, twin engine crane features a seven section, 80 metre main boom which can handle 14 tonnes at a 14 metre radius. The crane was specified with the 12 to 21 metre bi-fold hydraulic luffing swingaway extension for a maximum tip height of almost 105 metres and up to 40 degrees of offset. Two further extensions are available for a maximum possible tip height of 120 metres.

The Grove GMK6300L-1

The company said: “Grove’s 300 tonne All Terrains are very well known in Singapore, first the GMK6300L, and now the GMK6300L-1 are often requested by name. So, it made sense for us to add this crane to the fleet. We were really impressed with the long boom and also purchased the optional 21 metre extension to give us even greater reach. With this new addition, we can fully support a wider range of customer projects.”

Hiap Heng Heavy equipment was established in 1983 with two small truck cranes, an 18 tonne Kato and a 20 tonne Tadano TL200. It got its big break in 1985 when it purchased 12 second hand crawler cranes from a local company and won contracts for the petrochemical plants on Bukom island and Pulau Ayer Chawan - now Jurong Island - and on the construction of Jurong East MRT line. It began buying new cranes in 1996 and today runs a fleet of All Terrains - mostly Tadano - truck cranes, Rough Terrains and crawlers.
