Felbermayr to acquire Dorn

Austrian crane, aerial lift and telehandler rental company Felbermayr is to acquire aerial lifts sales and rental company Dorn Lift from Alexander and Anneliese Dorn, which distributes Hinowa spider lifts in Austria and Germany and Multitel truck mounted platforms in Austria. It also offers Haulotte self-propelled lifts and Omme trailer lifts.

Assuming the acquisition is approved the Doorn business, which employs 24 and is based in Lauterach, Austria -= near Bregenz in the far North West of the country - will continue to operate unchanged, at least for the short term, with all employees, including the owners and senior managers remaining on board. Dorn Lift had revenues in 2022 of €15.3 million, while Felbermayr generates revenues in the region of €700 million. No retails of the transaction have been published.

While the Doorn Lift business will continue largely unchanged, its rental business and service departments will be integrated into the Felbermayr aerial lift network. While Alexander and Evelyn Dorn will work with Christoph Nüßler, Felbermayr’s managing director of the aerial lift and transport divisions, to establish a Doorn Lift new and used sales business with the group.

The Doorn family business was established in 973 as a commercial painting business and branched out into the aerial work platform business after it started using them to paint commercial buildings. Today Alexander Dorn holds a 75 percent stake, while Anneliese has the remaining 25 percent.

Felbermayr managing director Horst Felbermayr said: “Dorn Lift is very important to Felbermayr, the takeover will enable us to more than double our order volume for platform rentals in Vorarlberg. The aerial work platform market is also extremely interesting for us. We see a lot of synergies and opportunities here, especially due to the network of branches within the Felbermayr group."
