New crane for accidental crane company

UK rental company Ken Harrop Crane Hire has added to its fleet, having originally entered the business accidentally.

The story begins in 1991 when Ken Harrop, an electrician at the time, went to an equipment auction looking for a generator set, instead he brought a crane, kicking off the Warrington based business that bears his name.
In 2015 he handed over the reigns of the business to son Jack and they purchased the company’s very first new crane. In 2020 a Klaas aluminium truck crane was added to broaden the fleet and meet particular demands.

The company’s second Liebherr LTM 1030-2.1 arrives

The latest acquisition is a new 35 tonne Liebherr LTM 1030-2.1, the second such crane in its fleet, which covers a wide area of North East England.

The two axle LTM 1030-2.1, features a four section 30 metre main boom, topped by an 8.6 to 15 metre bi-fold swingaway extension with up to 40 degrees of offset, taking the maximum tip height to almost 48 metres. The company also specified the crane with Variobase variable outrigger set up and remote controls. In the UK the crane can travel on the road with its full 5.5 tonnes of counterweight in place.

Jack Harrop said: “Our first LTM 1030-2.1 has proven to be a very reliable machine. As the lightest crane that Liebherr produces it provides many benefits especially with the increasing emphasis on low outrigger loadings, hence we have opted for the same model again.”
