Five people were injured on Tuesday - one of whom is in critical condition - when a trailer lift unhitched from the truck towing it in Princeton, North Carolina, south east of Raleigh.
The incident occurred on Highway 70 when the lift - a 50ft JLG T350 from the Sunbelt Rentals fleet - travelling between Greensboro and Goldsboro a distance of around 130 miles, broke free and careered across the other lanes crashing into two cars before reaching the central reservation. The occupants of the cars were all hurt, but treated at the roadside, while one was far more serious and was taken to hospital.
While this is a road accident, trailers can pose additional risks given that this equipment is rental and collected by all manner of people, who may or may not have adequate tow bars etc…
