NCCCO launches online crane safety tool

USA based NCCCO Foundation and National Safety Council (NSC) have launched a free online tool to help companies improve job site safety when using cranes and load handling equipment.

The tool provides a list of controls to address common hazards that contribute to serious incidents and fatalities in crane operations, including fatigue, falls from height, overhead power line contact and equipment overturning.

The controls are categorised using the Hierarchy of Controls method, which ranks approaches from elimination through to personal protective equipment, allowing users to select the most appropriate solutions for their situation.

NCCCO executive director T.J. Cantwell said: “The NCCCO Foundation is excited to provide this new tool to the crane industry along with our friends at the National Safety Council. Companies and individuals can select from a variety of common safety hazards to produce control options that help mitigate or eliminate them on the job site."

The Foundation will host an online seminar on March 4th to demonstrate the tool and discuss how companies can implement various controls to prevent common safety hazards.
