German crane rental company MSG Krandienst has taken delivery of a 250 tonne Grove GMK5250XL-1 All Terrain crane - the sixth 250 tonne crane in its fleet and the 46th Grove crane it has purchased since 2003.
The five axle crane - which was handed over at Grove's facility in Wilhelmshaven, Northern Germany - features an eight section 78.5 metre main boom topped by an 18 metre bi-fold swingaway extension that can be extended to 34 metres with additional inserts. Features include Grove’s Maxbase variable outrigger setup, Megatrak suspension with all wheel steering and twin lock boom pinning system. Power comes from a single HVO ready Stage V Mercedes diesel which is said to offer a 30 percent reduction in fuel consumption compared to previous power units.
MSG was established in 1994 and entered the crane rental market in 2002. Today it employs around 120 staff working from three locations - the headquarters in Kehl, near Baden Baden, plus a branch near Freiburg both of which are in the south west of Germany. It also has a satellite depot in Strasbourg, France, allowing the company to cover the whole border area in the Black Forest and Alsace regions. The crane fleet includes All Terrains from 40 to 800 tonnes, four and six axle mobile self-erecting tower cranes and knuckle boom loader cranes.
