Universal adds 1,200 tonner

Australian rental company Universal Cranes has taken delivery of a fully refurbished 1,200 tonne Liebherr LTR 11200 telescopic crawler crane.

The crane has already completed its first job, installing nine 76 tonne concrete bridge girders, each 35 metres long, as part of a level crossing modernisation project in Brisbane. For this job, it was equipped with a 28 metre main boom, 36 metre luffing jib and 182 tonnes of counterweight.

Universal general manager Mark Happer said: "We realised that our customers need to lift ever larger and heavier loads on casual short term hires and with ability to relocate while on site without the need to derig the crane. With this versatile new crane, we can handle these applications in a wide range of sectors from infrastructure to industrial projects."

Patrick Silver, Universal’s projects manager added: "Our LTR 11200 was the ideal crane solution for this job: It is unrivalled in its capacity class. On this particular job, the area for crane assembly was very limited, but the new crawler was able to be put into operation in an adjacent yard – far away from the rail corridor and the carriageway."
