Liebherr's for Dominican Republic

Grupo Modesto of the Dominican Republic has taken delivery of two new Liebherr All Terrain cranes - a 150 tonne LTM 1150-5.3 and a 230 tonne LTM 1230-5.1.

The five axle LTM 1150-5.3 is equipped with a 66 metre, seven section main boom along with the 10.8 to 19 metre bi-fold swingaway extension that offsets by up to 40 degrees. A seven metre insert can be added between the boom nose and extension to take the maximum tip height to almost 95 metres.

The LTM 1230-5.1 is also five axle unit and is equipped with an eight section 75 metre main boom and can be topped by an 11.5 to 20 metre bi-fold swingaway extension. Up to three, seven metre inserts can also be added for a maximum tip height of 113 metres with 68 metres of main boom.

The cranes have already completed their first job, working in tandem to dismantle a harbour crane at the Port of Santo Domingo. The LTM 1230-5.1, was equipped with 42 tonnes of counterweight and handled loads of up to six tonnes at heights of 75 metres, while the LTM 1150-5.3 was configured with 29 tonnes of ballast.

Vice president José Roberto Modesto said: "Over recent years, our country has experienced strong economic growth. Cranes with a capacities of 150 to 230 tonnes are currently in high demand. The LTM 1150-5.3 and LTM 1230-5.1 are versatile, even on bigger projects."

Established in 1975, Grupo Modesto was the first crane rental company in the Dominican Republic and now operates a fleet of 20 cranes with capacities from five to 350 tonnes. The company employs 50 and also offers heavy transport, construction and prefabrication services.
