Dual fatality in ladder fall

Two men working for roofing contractor Arocon Roofing and Construction in Camp Springs, Maryland – on the south east side of the Washington DC Beltway - died on Tuesday, after falling onto overhead power lines while using a ladder to climb onto the roof of the church they were working on.

The two men are said to be cousins one is in his 20s and the other in his 30s, they had been carrying out roof repairs on a church and according to the local police, were putting up a ladder and somehow fell off onto the power lines bringing them down. The died instantly, but their bodies caught fire. Their bodies remained on the lines, on the ground and continued to burn for more than 40 minutes, before the power company Pepco arrived on the scene and made the lines safe.

In a statement Pepco said: "We are aware of an incident that occurred in Temple Hills, Maryland involving two workers from a roofing company. Our thoughts are with the individuals impacted by this event. The safety of our customers, employees and contractors is always our top priority. We are working closely with local authorities as the investigation continues."
