Two spider cranes fell around 40 to 50 metres onto first floor scaffolding on Friday August 1st. The incident occurred as a Unic 596 spider crane located on the roof of the 12 storey building on ninth avenue in New York, was in the process of lifting a second spider crane from the ninth floor to the 10th when, we understand, the top crane slipped over the edge causing both cranes to fall to the ground.
Thankfully no one was hurt in the incident. We have heard that the site was cited a few days earlier for unsafe hoisting methods.
