LHM 550 for Bremerhaven terminal

Germany's BLG Logistics has taken delivery of a 154 tonne Liebherr LHM 550 mobile harbour crane for its Bremerhaven car terminal, expanding its transhipment capacity for general cargo, heavy goods and project cargo.
The new LHM 550

The LHM 550 has a capacity of 154 tonnes at a radius of 54 metres and features Liebherr's SmartGrab, intelligent system that optimises grab filling rates in a self learning manner, helping increase the fill rate, while avoiding overloads.

The Bremerhaven car terminal covers a 728 acre site whcih handled around a million tonnes of heavy goods and 1.3 million vehicles last year. The new crane joins a 104 tonne LHM 400 in Bremerhaven along with two ther units in Bremen – a 114 tonne LHM 320 and another 154 tonne LHM 550. A fifth Liebherr mobile harbour crane is scheduled for delivery to Bremen before the end of this year.

BLG Group executive board member Axel Krichel said: "The new LHM 550 takes us to a new level in heavy duty cargo handling and is a clear commitment to the further development of the site."

Andreas Ritschel of Liebherr Rostock added: "Delivering a crane to a terminal of this size requires not only knowledge of the technical requirements, but also of the entire logistical environment. This LHM 550 was developed to support Bremerhaven in its role as a high volume, future proof port."
