Boskalis upgrades Tadano

Dutch dredging and offshore energy service provider Boskalis has taken delivery of a 100 tonne Tadano GR-1000EX-4 Rough Terrain crane for its central distribution centre in Vlaardingen, the Netherlands.

The two axle GR-1000EX-4 has a 51 metre five section boom with a twin cylinder telescope system - one cylinder extends the first section, while the other provides synchronised extension of the others for a telescope time from fully retracted to fully extended of 170 seconds. It also features the two position 11.2 tonne Smart Counterweight system which is said to increase capacities by up to 20 percent at longer reach, for example taking the capacity at a 42 metre radius from 900kg to 1.1 tonnes.

The crane will support daily logistics operations at the central distribution centre and replaces a Tadano GR-600EXL that has operated at the facility for 23 years, handling heavy equipment including pumps and containers for distribution of consumables and machinery.

Boskalis head of logistics Chris van Wijk said: "Our previous Tadano crane has served us reliably for over two decades. This proven quality was one of the main reasons why we chose Tadano again. With the GR-1000EX-4, we are confident that we will be able to work safely and efficiently in the coming years."
