More Big crawlers for Mammoet

Dutch International crane, heavy lift and haulage group Mammoet has added two large Liebherr crawler cranes to its fleet.

They include a 1,350 tonne LR11350 and a 2,500 tonne LR12500-1.0, the second of these 2,500 tonners in the Mammoet crane fleet.

The investment is part of Mammoet’s plan to keep up with the significant growth it is seeing in the renewables market, particularly in offshore wind, where turbine heights continue to increase, requiring the large crawler cranes with greater reach and capacity.

The LR 11350, as specified, has a maximum lift height of 220 metres, and is the 11th crane in the Mammoet fleet with a maximum capacity of 1,000 to 1,350 tonnes. Its first job will be in the Netherlands.

The LR12500-1.0 has an overwide main boom and a maximum lift height of 200 metres. Its first job will be in the UK.

Global projects and assets director Peter van Oostrom said: “To ensure we continue to have a fleet of the most modern cranes in the world that meets market requirements, it is important that we invest in new machines from leading manufacturers. Liebherr is a worldwide supplier and the logical choice for cranes of this capacity. We therefore see it being in very high demand, particularly for offshore wind projects”.

Liebherr managing director Christoph Kleiner added: “Mammoet has been a key partner to Liebherr for many years, providing valuable input into the development of new crane hardware. Its insight into usability and future capacity requirements is invaluable. We have a strong relationship with the company and are delighted it has added two more Liebherr cranes to its fleet”.
