Tower crane down

A tower crane came down onto a car earlier this week, as storm Kristin blasted its way through central and northern Portugal, with winds in the town of Leira – between Lisbon and Porto in western Portugal, recording wind speeds of 178kph, before the monitoring equipment was destroyed. The crane never stood a chance.

Although three people lost their lives in the town during the storm, we understand that none of them were due to the crane collapse. We have requested more photos from the scene to understand exactly what happened and will add to this if and when we receive them.

The video below will provide an impression of the damage the storm inflicted.
