Liebherr has appointed Croatian crane sales and service company KranTehnik EU as a tower crane dealer across eight Balkan countries, including Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo and North Macedonia.
KranTechnik EU was established in 2024 by tower crane veteran and long time Liebherr collaborator, Mario Zanko and is based in Zaprešić, on the north west side of Zagreb in addition to new and used crane sales KranTehnik also provides full after sales services and training.
The new appointment and partnership is, according to Liebherr, intended to help modernise the region’s ageing tower crane fleet, and reduce the average age of cranesd in the region from the current 25 to 30 years to around 15 to 18 years, within the next five years.

KranTehnik managing director Sanela Zanko said: “We see our role as helping contractors understand and trust modern crane technology. We want the Balkan market to see modern cranes not as a risk, but as a reliable, fully supported solution that makes their work easier and their sites more efficient. Over the coming years, we expect some growth in renovation and reconstruction projects, especially those linked to energy efficiency and modernisation, alongside continued residential development in urban areas.”
The Croatian construction industry is heavily oriented towards residential and public infrastructure projects, mainly in Zagreb and along the Adriatic coast. Most sites use hammer head and some flat top tower cranes, with some of the smaller contractors favouring self-erecting cranes.
