Sinoboom's Dual-ETM Technology

Chinese aerial lift and telehandler manufacturer Sinoboom has introduced what it calls a Dual-ETM Smart Technology, designed to extend battery life and improve the energy efficiency of electric boom lifts.

The system uses a combination of components and sensors to calculate the optimum power usage required during operation, eliminating waste associated with systems based on maximum demand. So, in some respects, it achieves improvements similar to what motor controllers did around 25 years ago, but with a great deal more sophistication.

Key elements include the use of permanent magnet synchronous motors, which tend to be less power hungry, and multi valve CAN-bus controls to reduce flow loss and improve precision. The company claims that its tests of boom lifts equipped with the technology indicated energy usage reductions of around 30 percent, extending the battery life by a similar percentage over its boom lifts without the new technology.

Hyman Yu, head of Sinoboom's global product centre, said: "The Dual-ETM Smart Technology isn't just about upgrading machines, it's a real breakthrough, and we see it as setting a real world benchmark for efficiency in electric boom lifts."
