A flat top tower crane collapsed today in the Kwai Tsing District of Hong Kong, killing the operator and possibly causing other casualties.
The incident occurred at around 16:30 local time - 9:30 Central European Time - the emergency services are still on the scene and investigating. It is far too early to comment on the cause, but the failure appears to have occurred at the tower base.
The falling crane apparently struck one or more cars when it landed, so far we have no reports of further fatalities apart from the crane operator, 60.
The first photo received from the scene taken by Sam Tsang
The debris of the falling crane has been scattered across the Tai Wo Hau road, which has now been closed.
We will, of course, update this item when we know more.
