Mobile training centre begins tour

Manitowoc's ‘Mobile training & technology centre’ (MTTC) - which it launched last month at Conexpo - has hit the road and is currently being used for its first crane operator and technician training sessions in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Transported on a 16 metre trailer, the unit provides a fully equipped 13 x 7.5 metre classroom that can be set up in around four hours at locations such as dealer facilities or job sites. Designed for groups of six students or more, it can be used for a range of courses, but is initially aimed at entry level training for apprentice technicians and branch staff, allowing earlier, model specific instruction at dealer locations without the cost of travel.

Following the show, the MTTC travelled to MGX Equipment Services in Salt Lake City for its first customer training sessions a Crane Technician Orientation course for local crane rental companies Cowin Equipment and Wagstaff Crane. Manitowoc instructor Brandon Pieffer led the course, which covered core skills for entry level technicians.

Global training manager, Andy Coy said: “The response to the mobile training centre at Conexpo was very positive, with dealers and customers excited about the option for more flexible technician instruction. This first session in Utah demonstrates how effectively we can deliver training, and we're seeing strong demand for future bookings across North America.”

After the Utah sessions, the MTTC is heading to travel to Denver, Colorado.
