Chinese aerial work platform manufacturer Dingli has released photos of its ‘Sky Villa space capsule’ accommodation based at the foot of Mogan Mountain in Deqing, Zhejiang province, which will open to the public shortly.
Capsules on different work platform bases
At first, we thought this might be a late April Fool’s stunt, but the company has assured us otherwise! The 'villas' use the technology and base of its aerial work platforms, allowing them to be driven over rough ground to the ideal location, raised to a height of up to 16 metres and then rotated 360 degrees, allowing occupants to select the perfect height and direction for the best view.
The interior is more spacious than you might expect
The Sky Villas are mounted on its heavy duty scissor lift platforms, but one uses a big scissor platform boom lifts and even features a small balcony. They include Four Wheel Drive, oscillating axle and stabilisers. Safety features include a wind speed sensor, an emergency descent system and an intelligent safety lock, with the cabin door automatically locking when elevated.
A spokesperson from Dingli said: “I can assure you that this is not an April Fool's joke, but rather a new and innovative product we have developed. Strictly speaking, it is not a traditional aerial work platform. Instead, it is a capsule-like room or pod that can be used for rest and accommodation, integrated with our lifting platform base. We have recently launched this product in the domestic market, but it has not yet been released internationally.”
Power options include a photovoltaic solar power system, which the company says can provide independent power in off-grid locations. The capsule also has an internal control panel for lighting, air conditioning and audio/visual systems, as well as a bathroom. It is offered in several configurations - including accommodation, a coffee unit and a children’s play unit - which can be installed individually or in groups.
