Ghana’s BAJ Freight and Logistics has purchased a new 100 tonne Liebherr LTM 1100-5.3 All Terrain crane as part of its crane fleet expansion strategy.
The five axle crane features a seven section 62 metre main boom plus a 9.5 to 16 metre bi-fold swingaway which can be offset to 40 degrees and provides a maximum tip height of 68 metres. It is equipped with the Liccon3 control system, a Stage V diesel and Liebherr’s VarioBase and VarioBallast systems. It can carry up to 16.9 tonnes of counterweight within 12 tonne axle loads and has an overall width of 2.55 metres. The new crane joins three other Liebherr All Terrains in the BAJ fleet, a 300 tonner, a 220 tonner and a 150 tonner.
At the handover (L-R) Morne Jute of Liebherr with Joseph Biney of BAJ Freights and Logistics and Marius Kleck of Liebherr Speaking of the new acquisition chief executive, Joseph Biney said: “With our new LTM 1100-5.3, we are filling a gap below the existing capacity models. It will handle smaller lifting tasks in future, thereby taking the strain off the larger units in the fleet. The utilisation rate of our three larger cranes is very high – any downtime represents a significant strain for us. The high product quality and reliable local service made the decision to invest in a fourth Liebherr crane an easy one.”
“The LTM 1100-5.3 impressed us with its high safety standards. Furthermore, it is equipped with the new Liccon 3 crane control system and will be the first mobile crane of this generation in Ghana. The new crane’s main areas of application will be in port logistics and in projects for the mining and oil & gas industries. Combined with the transport and logistics services we provide, this creates a comprehensive range of services from delivery to on-site installation.”
“In addition to product quality, other factors for this renewed investment in a Liebherr crane included the high availability and local service provided by Liebherr in Ghana, which is essential for smooth operation.”
