German inland container port operator Contargo, has ordered its first electric reachstacker from Kalmar.
The new full container machine will be based at the company’s Neus terminal, near Düsseldorf, and will join eight regular Kalmar reachstackers at the terminal in the Rhine.
is due for delivery in the fourth quarter, it has also been ordered with a seven year ‘Kalmar Complete Care’ service contract. This includes any repairs or issues and full routine maintenance. It comes with ‘a MyKalmar Insight’ subscription, which is said to “guarantee equipment availability and ensure terminal operations run without interruption.”
A Kalmar Reachstacker
The Contargo group has installed eight charging points and an energy management system at the Neuss terminal, which has a local energy supply supplemented by crane energy recovery systems and photovoltaic solar panels, combined with battery storage systems.

Head of engineering & terminal operations Olaf Jahn added: “The decision to opt for the Kalmar reachstacker is based on the optimal combination of technical performance and cost-effectiveness. Contargo is best in Mannheim but operates a total of 24 terminals at inland ports across Germany, Switzerland and France, many of them on the River Rhine, servicing six countries with 1,280 employees based in the terminals and offices in six countries, with a typical annual capacity of two million TEU - 20ft Equivalent Units.
