Dropped load in Luxembourg

Police have confirmed that a tower crane working on the new ArcelorMittal headquarters in Kirchberg on the northeast side of Luxembourg city, dropped three large steel bars from a height of around 60 metres earlier this month.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 12th, when, supposedly, a balance beam failed, dropping the heavy steel tubes onto the roof of the European Convention Centre, causing significant damage, but thankfully no one was injured.

Those who were inside the building at the time were evacuated as a precaution, while the Inspectorate of Labour and Mines (ITM) has launched an investigation into what went wrong. .

On Monday, the police finally confirmed to RTL that there had been an incident at the location, which had already been reported to officers on 12 August. According to their information, three steel beams fell that day from a height of 60 metres, having not been properly secured to the crane. The beams fell first onto the construction site below and then onto the EU Council building diagonally opposite.
