A long weekend

The UK, where most of our English language team are based, has a public holiday on Monday, the last one until Christmas.

This one is now called August Bank Holiday or sometimes Late Summer Bank Holiday. It came into being with the Bank Holidays Act 1871, and was originally held on the first Monday in August. It was formally moved to the last Monday in the month in 1971 following a two-year trial.

It sort of marks the end of summer, with schools starting to return in the week that follows, and by which time all factories that operate annual shutdowns are back at work. Probably more than you ever wanted to know on the subject, but now you know.

So, while some of us might well still be working as Vertikal Days looms, the office will be closed, and immediate news reporting may suffer a little. If you need to make contact urgently, try our numbers and emails anyway, otherwise, normal service will resume on Tuesday.
