Video telematics for Greenore Port

Irish port operator Greenore Port has installed Camera Telematics two camera video telematics systems on its twin 104 tonne LHM 320 Liebherr mobile harbour cranes.

The system adds a camera at the base of the crane cab, replicating the operator's view of the working area, alongside an existing jib camera mounted at the top of the crane which looks directly into the vessel's hold. Footage from both is displayed to the operator in real time on an in-cab monitor and is available to the port's senior management and necessary personnel through Camera Telematics' online platform.

Where the footage shows something going wrong or a potential hazard, the port now logs it as a ‘Camera Learning Opportunity’ and shows the crane operator and other staff what happened and what the risk was. The recordings are also used where damage to a vessel, cargo or port equipment is alleged, so the port can see what took place and whether the damage was caused elsewhere.

Greenore Port health & safety manager Simon Berry said: "By reviewing footage of any incidents, we can identify learning opportunities that ultimately prevent recurrence and enable us to better protect personnel working at the port. We have worked closely with Camera Telematics to deliver a robust solution, effective even in the most extreme weather conditions, that supports our safety strategy."

Greenore Port is on Carlingford Lough in County Louth, on Ireland's east coast around 90km north of Dublin, it handles bulk, break bulk and project cargo. Camera Telematics is based in Newbury, Berkshire, southern England, and supplies vehicle and machine mounted camera systems with fleet monitoring and video management, working predominately with heavy haulage, commercial fleet and specialised vehicle operators.
